Clinical Procedures for Procera

Clinical Indications: The Procera Method can be used to create single unit crowns for both anterior and posterior teeth. Procera is best used for anteriors where esthetic requirements are the strongest.

Contra-Indications: Procera can’t be used for multiple unit bridgework.

Preparation Requirements: A chamfer type of preparation with rounded internal angles is recommended. The ideal depth is 1.0 to 1.5 mm with a 2.0 mm clearance at the incisal edge. Sharp edges and 90-degree shoulders must be avoided and, for molars, a flattened two-plane occlusal surface works well. See diagrams below.

Preparation Tools: Nobel Biocare offers a diamond bur kit specially designed for the preparation of a Procera crown. The precise size and shape of these burrs exactly match the Procera scanning tip and therefore ensure accuracy of the restoration. Armstrong Laboratory provides such a kit FREE with your first Procera case. Please contact our laboratory for more information.

Provisional Restorations: A provisional should be placed using either a direct in-office procedure or a custom fabricated temporary from the laboratory. Procera AllCeram can be provisionally cemented prior to final placement.

Shade Selection: Your choice of shade guide can be used.

Cementation: Procera can be treated as a PFM in most respects. Resin reinforced glass ionomer cement is the only type that is not recommended. Procera may be bonded to place if desired.

Finishing/Polishing: Use finishing diamonds (no carbides) wet to adjust the porcelain (never dry grind). Use rubber polishing wheels to further smooth any adjusted areas where access permits. Final polish with a diamond polish paste.

Product Scheduling: Please consult our fee schedule for lab time required.
